Common Causes of Part Upload Failures

Learn how to troubleshoot common upload issues in Toolpath, including errors caused by modeled threads, unsupported file formats, and large part sizes. Discover solutions to ensure successful part uploads.

If Toolpath cannot upload a part, it will show a red X icon in the upload dialog:

failed part upload

Hover over the red X icon to see why Toolpath could not upload the part. Some common reasons are described below.

Modeled Threads

fail explanation

Toolpath does not currently support modeled threads. To upload the part:

  1. Edit the STEP file in the CAD program of your choice and remove the modeled threads. Cosmetic threads are ok as they will not be included in the step export.
  2. Upload the part to Toolpath (see How to Upload Parts for more information).
  3. Define threaded holes by clicking the pencil icon next to "Threaded Holes" in the Estimate tab:

Unsupported File Format

fileformatmessage

Toolpath currently supports only STEP/STP file imports. Please see Accepted File Types for more information.

Toolpath can upload multiple STEP/STP files simultaneously, but will not unzip a compressed folder. If you receive this error with a ZIP file, unzip the file on your local computer, group select the files in Mac Finder or Windows File Explorer, and drag the grouped files into Toolpath to simultaneously upload.

Very Large Parts

Toolpath currently has a part size limit of 80"x50"x30" (2032x1270x762 mm). Parts with a bounding box larger than this overall volume will fail, and smaller parts with very complex geometry may also show errors. Please see the Maximum Part Size article for more information.
