How to Choose First Setup Orientation

Edit your machining environment and recalculate part reports to manually define your first setup orientation

By default, Toolpath selects the first setup as the orientation based on a combination of the following factors;

  • possible material removal volume,
  • Lowest overall aspect ratio (keeping heights low),
  • Availability of a full profile at the given orientation.
In some cases, you may want to force a particular first setup orientation. This may be due to your fixtures, tooling, or personal preference for desired machining strategy.

To do so, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the part report from the Parts page.
  2. In the Overview page, select Settings (in the top right hand corner)
    settings recalc
  3. Select the Cut Config and First Setup orientation you wish to recalculate the part with:
    edit environment
  4. Select Recalculate.
  5. The part report will recalculate using the selected setup as the first setup orientation.

To control the orientation and order of ALL setups, create the setups in Fusion and use Keep Existing Setups with the Send to Toolpath option!
