How to import Toolpath CAM into an existing Fusion document
Import Toolpath CAM programs into existing Fusion documents to use your existing workholding models and setups!
To import Toolpath CAM programs into an existing Fusion document:
- Open the modeled assembly with your part, workholding, and Setup 1 stock models assembled as desired.
- Please note that, if your model includes an Setup2 fixture and model, you will need to make two considerations:
- The Setup2 model needs to be an Instance for the Setup1 Model - so Toolpath knows they are the same part. This is done by Copy/Pasting the component (as opposed to Copy/Paste New).
- Because components will need to be selected when creating Fusion setups, first setup stock cannot be included within the part components.
- Please note that, if your model includes an Setup2 fixture and model, you will need to make two considerations:
- If desired, create the desired setups in Fusion. Toolpath will obey WCS location/orientation, fixture, stock, and model selections. You will want to do this when you want to control setup orientation or anytime you have multiple instances of the same part in the assembly model.
- Please note that secondary setups need to use the "From preceding setups" Stock Mode with "Continue Rest Machining" enabled.
- Please note that secondary setups need to use the "From preceding setups" Stock Mode with "Continue Rest Machining" enabled.
- Use the "Send Part to Toolpath" button to send the part to Toolpath:
- Choose if you'd like to send the only the model body or the existing setups to Toolpath.
- Model Body will send only the selected target body and will generate all setups in it's position in the assembly model.
- Existing setups will obey WCS location/orientation, fixture, stock, and model selections from the selected setups.
- Click OK to send the part to Toolpath.
- Choose if you'd like to send the only the model body or the existing setups to Toolpath.
- The part will be sent to Toolpath and the report will generate. Check out the setups, tool list, strategy, and estimate pages - anything you usually do in a Toolpath report!
- When you are ready to bring the CAM program back into Fusion, click "Export to Fusion" to copy the part code:
- Use the Import into Current Document option in the Toolpath for Fusion add-in to bring the CAM operations into the open Fusion document:
- This will import the Toolpath generated CAM program to Fusion.
- If you did NOT send existing setups, new setups will be created on the selected model body.
- If you sent existing setups, CAM operations will overwrite any CAM operations currently in the setup.
