Sample Tool Libraries and Cut Configs in Toolpath

Use the Material Default, Sample Aluminum, and DFM Cut Configs to understand how Toolpath uses tools and programs

Toolpath includes sample tool libraries and Cut Configs. As you upload your first parts, use the sample Cut Configs to get quick results - no tool library setup required!

Toolpath includes two sample Cut Configs by default, accessed through the Cut Configs page:
default cut configs

  • The Sample Aluminum (Inch or Metric) Cut Config contains a small tool library with basic end mills from 1/16" to 1/2" (1.5mm to 12mm). Use the Sample Aluminum Cut Config to know if a part is machinable with a very basic set of standard tooling and get tool recommendations for trickier features.
  • The DFM Cut Config uses much larger tool library with all the basics, along with longer reach, reduced shank, keyseat/woodruff, drills, and taps. Use the DFM Cut Config when you need to find specialized tooling that is not present in a vendor library, and we recommend setting the DFM tool library as recommendations in your own Cut Configs.
  • Material Default Cut Configs are created when you first sign up for Toolpath through the process described below. These are similar in scope and usage to the Sample Aluminum Cut Config, but include presets for Low Carbon and/or Stainless Steel.

Creating Sample Cut Configs

When a Toolpath account is first created, the screen below will be shown, prompting you to upload a tool library or use the samples:

onboarding pop up

  1. Select your UNITS in the upper right
  2. Either upload a Fusion tool library of your own or use a sample library
  3. Select Continue to confirm your choice

After selecting the sample or uploading your tools, Toolpath will create a Cut Config using the selected tool library in the selected units.

Closed the pop up too early? No worries - download the samples from the links below, upload them to Toolpath, and create your Cut Configs:

The Steel libraries are set up with presets for both Low Carbon and Stainless steel.
